![]() SERVAS EVENTS |INTRODUCTIONThere has never been a more important time to spread the word about Servas and the importance of peace and cross-cultural understanding! Look below for information on local, national and international Servas events. MONTHLY DINNERSServas members and friends are invited to attend local monthly dinners that help local Servas members get to know each other better and introduce non-Servas members to the organization. Monthly dinners are often organized by area representatives and are usually held on the same day each month but can vary depending on the area. Area Representatives > If regular monthly dinners are held in your area but are not listed below please let us know! Submit a Monthly Dinner > BostonKate Soukonnikov, Massachusetts Area Rep has initiated a new Yahoo Group for Servas in Massachusetts that will alert members to dinners and gatherings throughout the state. To join, just send a blank email to MassServas@yahoogroups.com, after which you will receive a confirmation email. If you have any questions please contact Kate Soukonnikov. New YorkNew York monthly dinners are held once every month, date and time to be announced. To subscribe to the New York area list serve and receive emails about upcoming events email info@usservas.org. Salt Lake CitySalt Lake City monthly dinners are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm. The dinners are held at the Thai Siam restaurant at 1435 S. State Street and consist of sharing travel stories and plans, meeting new members and travelers, socializing, and, of course, excellent Thai food. From June-August there are usually no dinners; instead a party and potluck is held toward the end of the summer. San FranciscoSan Francisco monthly dinners are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month from 6-8:30pm and consist of dinner, socializing and sharing of travel stories or discussion of topics of interest. Occasionally the dinners are held on other days to accommodate people who are busy on Wednesdays. Anyone interested should call or email Susan Ovington (#415-826-7598). An email announcement is sent out about 2 weeks in advance of the dinner, so interested people should request to be placed on the mailing list. Washington DC AreaWashington DC Servas members have their own local list serve and organize monthly dinners and winter and summer potlucks. Please visit the DC area website or email them for more information. PEACE AND CULTURE EVENTSOccasionally Servas members organize peace and culture events that may include a presentation on Servas to a college or community group, a panel discussion on current peace issues or a cultural event that brings diverse communities together! Submit a Peace and Culture Event > Current EventsServas will be participating in the United Nations 58th Annual DPI/NGO Conference Our Challenge: Voices for Peace, Partnership, and Renewal. Past EventsThe Middle East Peace Quilt, coordinated by Canadian Servas member, Sima Elizabeth Shefrin, was on display in New York City at St. Bartholomew's Church (June 2003), the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (September 2003) and at the Puffin Cultural Forum in Teaneck, New Jersey (November-December 2003).
